And we have again,it was third time lucky on Bank Holiday Monday at Llangefni Town in more ways than one with a superb victory against the odds at the Welsh Premier aspirants especially so when down to 10 men for the whole of the second period following Kenleigh Owen’s harsh dismissal just before the break. Alex Jones (the prolific) put us ahead early on with his second goal in two games and Hotspur looked good for more taking the game to the hosts.

It looked difficult with a man down but we gave as good as we got with the irrepressible Curt Williams working manfully on his own up front well supported by his colleagues, while the defence coped well with all that came at them. Mike Edwards has not scored many this season but he will never score such a valuable winner with just minutes to go. This was a heart warming performance which should be a real confidence booster for the New Year. It would be hard to pick out any individual performance as every player pulled out all the stops to earn the three points just to say well done lads the Town were proud of you and what’s more we have the Ynys Mon bragging rights.

Mark and Emlyn too deserve the plaudits for a job well done. Now we just have to carry on.

We were the only match that survived the weather in the league on the 2nd January but it did make a mess of the Stadium and to lose to an enigmatic side. The recent red cards are out of frustration more than anything else but lack of discipline costs clubs dear and referees are not always to blame for everything even if sometimes we like to think so, as on occasions the fault lies closer to home!!

Due to weather again the game on the 9th was off.

First Team C - C Bethesda Athletic

Yesterdays match at home to Flint Town United we lost 2 nill  Sad.

Just a quick update lots been going on over the last few weeks with games been off due to weather anyway Holyheadhotspur been having their worst season since about 12 years, we are well into the season and only 2ND from bottom its not good this has been the hardest season in the Cymru Alliance with a lot of stronger teams in it this season.

Our bad run continued at home on the 2ND of Jan First Team 2 - 3 Guilsfield .

Last week i went to Gresford never easy been away more pressure on the team now then ever, and what a game we had we out played the Wrexham side and came home winning Gresford Athletic 0 - 3 First Team this was a major boost to the team.

Over the last few weeks the club has been getting some stick on another football forum - http://www.welsh-premier.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=5

A new report has started in the Holyhead & Anglesey mail sports section called Corby's corner (he is the manager for Bethesda FC) anyway due to our match been called off with them due to the weather and us trying to play the match on our 2ND pitch they refused (not sure why) this caused a bit of a slanging match on the football forum (link above) and then to make things even worse there manager wrote a peace in this weeks Holyhead & Anglesey mail (Corby's corner) and this was out yesterday when we where due to play them that evening here is a peace from his article.

For all the football fans on here that don't get to read the Holyhead & Anglesey Mail here's what the Bethesda Manager wrote in his article this week:

An interesting week ahead kicks off with my own team Bethesda playing at Holyhead Hotspur tonight.

While there is unrest in the Anglesey club at present over their appeal hearings and suspensions, a full Bethesda squad will travel to the new stadium - as long as the bus turns up!

Holyhead will have Saturday's big welsh cup tie at Llanelli on their minds and I AM CONFIDENT OUR BIG HIT TACTICS SHOULD WORK A TREAT IN THIS GAME TO SECURE MAXIMUM POINTS IN THIS GAME.

A POOR week for Holyhead is PREDICTED with 2 losses expected.

Well when this came out yesterday it got everyone up in arms from the fans to players, and also the remarks on the forum  so this was going to make the game very interesting last night (Wednesday).

All I'm going to say is that before the game our manager throw a copy of the H&A Mail on the dressing room floor and said read this **** he then stuck it to the wall and based his team talk on it and him, from the minute we got on the pitch we played some of the best football Ive seen this season they had no chances of getting near our goal area not even keeping the ball for more then two passes after us going 2 - nill up within 20 minutes they started to loose their heads, second half more goals with us finishing 5 - nill winners his players lost their heads and turned dirty from tackles to pushing and verbal abuse but to be fair our lads did not rise to it we kept our cool and finished the game in style.
Bethesda manager got some stick from the fans but he kept his head down in shame after all he said about us i can't tell you how i felt such pride i tell you.

A funny moment was in front of about 30 people a young female fun called Corby over and said "Corby I'm making some humble pie later shall i keep you a peace" well his face said it all i think and i can't wait to read next weeks article if he still has a job.

Holyheadhotspur are now moving up the table lets up we have have passed our bad patch, we are now in 12Th place with a hearing still pending if we win that we get our 3 points back.

Next week we play Llanelli in the 4Th round who are in the top 5 in the WPL a very hard game but who knows  Cheesy.

Keep the faith.

Gresford 0 - 3 Holyheadhotspur

ALTHOUGH boosted by picking up three much needed points at bottom side Gresford over the weekend, Holyhead Hotspur know they face two much tougher tests over the next three days.

Tonight (Wednesday) the Harbourmen host Bethesda Athletic in a crucial Cymru Alliance clash which preludes Saturday's glamour Welsh Cup fourth round tie at Welsh Premier title contenders Llanelli.

While a win at Stebonheath Park would no doubt be the biggest result in Hotspur's history, surely the club will see taking maximum points off Pesda this evening as the chief priority.

The pacy Kenleigh Owen will be back from suspension tonight for Holyhead, who moved up to fifth bottom after their success at Clappers Lane. Three more points against Bethesda would lift them another two places.

Through beating Gresford, Mark Williams' men ensured a bogey was laid to rest. Last season the Colliers had taken from Holyhead six unexpected points which ultimately cost the Harbourmen the Cymru Alliance title and potential progression to the Welsh Premier.

Saturday's meeting came in altogether different circumstances with the two sides occupying the bottom two places, but Hotspur took the honours in emphatic style and with more composure would have won by a heavier margin.

Gresford gave as good as they got in the initial stages and went close when Tom Wells' header was tipped on to the bar and over by visiting keeper Mike Doutch.

Holyhead were also creating chances, Dean Garmey rifling past the post from a goalmouth melee before the ball was cleared off the line from a Mike Kelly corner.

The Anglesey men were starting to take control when they took the lead on 33 minutes. Mike Edwards took successive flag- kicks, the second of which was only cleared as far as Kelly whose 20-yard shot deflected off Wells past static keeper Gareth Rowland.

It was nip and tuck for the rest of the half, but two goals in a minute early in the second period killed the contest.

On 52 minutes Mike Edwards broke well down the right, found Mel McGinness in the middle of the goalmouth and he skilfully picked out the running in Tom Nathan Edwards who drove home.

Soon after Mike Edwards was found in space in the area and drilled past Rowland to make sure of the points.

Gresford's heads dropped and Hotspur created a number of further opportunities, Mike Edwards and McGinness going particularly close.

In the closing stages the hosts pressed for a consolation, but Doutch was equal to Huw Jones' strike.

Hotspur on tour again for the 4th round Welsh cup tie in ‘sospan country’ against high riding Llanelli of the Welsh Premier. The 4-0 scoreline was emphatic enough and could and should have been more as Manager Mark Williams was honest enough to say, however we gave a creditable display, many in the home camp saying Hotspur were as good as any of teams who have visited Stebonheath this season. Kind words maybe but it was a learning curve for our players and a bench mark to what we have to aim for.

Credit to all at Llanelli for getting the game on which looked highly unlikely a few hours earlier as this club would have incurred huge expense to return down there at a later date.

Caernarfon Town FC play us this Wednesday the 10th Feb (7.30ko). This is the first visit to Holyhead by a Caernarfon Town side for quite some years.

                                                             Other News

Mark Owen has taken over the organizing with secretary Dylan Edwards of the Fun Football ‘Soccer Schools’. There will be an Easter Soccer School at the New Oval/Stadium on Tuesday to Thursday 6/8 April 10am to 2pm. If you know any youngsters aged 6 to 13 who wants to be there then you need to contact any member of the Youth Committee and they can help you. The Club Tournament is being scheduled for Saturday/Sunday 5/6 June (7 and 9 year old on Saturday and 11 and 12 on the Sunday). The Tournament continues on Saturday 12th June for the 14 and 16 year old. There will be clubs attending from England and maybe across the water so it looks as if we have a good the reputation.

We did put in for a Grant to upgrade the existing 20 year old Floodlighting to 500lux Welsh Premier standard. The scheme was costed at £32000 and usually the FAW Ground Improvement company can give you three quarters. On this occasion because the amount of Grant money they had was so heavily over subscribed they could only give £9000 instead of the £24000 we asked for. We will now look in April at the total amount of money we have at that time from and other sources and see what work we can do to upgrade the lights.

DU Construction has done a first class job in excavating behind the dug outs for a new pathway, and the proposed new spectator standing area next to the main stand, so when the ground around the field hardens in about March, Hogan Group will be delivering free of charge concrete to reinstate a pathway which was taken away when we made the dug outs. This is a FAW criteria requirement for a Domestic Licence. At the same time they will deliver concrete to form the base for the New Spectator standing area. Planning permission for this will be with us shortly

Our last home game against Caernarfon saw another emphatic win similar in many respects to the five goal mauling of Bethesda Athletic. Here again, Hotspur notched up a nap hand after escaping a scare in the first minute. Mel McGuiness, Chris Saxon and Kenleigh Owen then fired in three goals in twelve minutes which effectively won the game, and although the Canaries pulled one back with twenty minutes to go, Hotspur quickly responded via Mike Kelly and another from Kenleigh Owen with seconds to go. This was our sixth win in the last eight league outings with also the goals beginning to flow.

Holyheadhotspur 5 - 1 Caernarfon Town

Last Saturday at Maes Ellian the home of Llanfairpwll we had far more of the play against the hosts and perhaps should have collected all three points, however we came up against a very resolute defence who did well to reduce us to very few clear cut chances, while they themselves were quite nippy up front. Dean Garmey was prominent throughout and it was his ball into the middle which brought a well deserved equaliser from the irrepressible Curt Williams who again worked his socks off.

No games are easy in this competitive league and all points have to be earned, so perhaps a draw was a fair result in a very well contested encounter which livened up after the break, the hosts also keen to collect all three points in a bid to steer clear of the relegation places.

Llanfairpwll 1 - 1 Holyheadhotspur

Our next game is home on Friday evening a 7.30pm kick off to Buckley Town.

Hello again it's getting to that time again when the footy season kicks off (sorry about the pun) we've been busy working hard behind the scenes but almost done now before the first of the pre season games start -

Friday - 9th July home to TRANMERE ROVERS KO 19.30.

Saturday 17th July home to RUNCORN TOWN KO 15.00 (1st team) & 12.30 for the reserve team a full afternoon of football.

Saturday 24th July at Bodedern KO 15.00.

Saturday 31st July home to Buckley Town KO 15.00.

We will find out this Saturday as to which league we will be playing in but almost certain it will be the Welsh Alliance.

Tonight we had our AGM all outgoing committee and officers were re-elected, apart from Gareth Davies who has stood down from the committee but is still going to continue with his many other duties which include press officiating, weekly draws, distribution of posters and info aswell as his matchday duties, for that we thank him and also thank him for his many years service as part of the committee. we're pleased to have added Paul 'Nutsy' Nutter back on to the committee after a short absence whilst involved on the coaching side with clubs nearer home in lancashire, despite which, he still, along with j.t, who we also thank for all his continued hard work, put together the programme every home game, a sure sign of his never dimishining affection and commitment to the club, he's a fellah who's steeped in football and along with Mark 'fatboy's disco' Hughes, who we're also pleased to welcome on to the committee, will inject some much needed fresh blood onto the committee. there are also one or two others who are considering joining.

The committee wishes to thank everyone who's contributed over the last 12 months of which there are many, but at the same time, we're still desperate for people to lend a hand in any small way if they can, rIchard parry has taken a bit of the pressure off the massively overworked Davy Hughes and is back looking after the playing field for the time being, if anyone can spare any time going forward to help richard out or take some of the responsibility off him, we'd all be extremely gratefull.

If anyone wants to get involved, feel free to put your names forward, whether it be in a formal capacity in a role which can be discussed, or in a more informal capacity, i.e helping out on matchdays, the club would be exremely gratefull.

Lots going on with our 1st pre season match on Friday against Tranmere Rovers X1 KO 7PM.

Back with us is Liam Shanahan a fine keeper who was spotted for us some years ago by one of our scouts Rod Holroyd. Jason Owen a great midfielder,Paul Rowlands an experienced WPL Bangor City player. Barry Haigh has put pen to paper for Hotspur and he has a reputation of being a prolific goal scorer so we hope he can ‘bang them in’ for us this season. There are other signings I believe but Mark and Emlyn are holding their cards close to their chests. Its great news though that all of last season’s lads are signing and we thank them for their loyalty to the Club and to Mark and Emlyn.

Many months ago the FAW stated that the Welsh Premier League would be reduced to 12 this coming season, then 11 season 2011/12 and 10 season 2012/13. As most of the EIGHTEEN WPL clubs came from the catchment area of the Cymru Alliance (Mid Wales, Wrexham and North Wales) it was plain to see that many of the Cymru Alliance Clubs would be relegated and so it proved. Ten of last seasons Cymru Alliance Clubs were relegated of which FIVE came to the Welsh Alliance.

So now we look forward to a new challenge and I hope the Club on and off the field is gearing itself up for promotion at the first attempt.

Dave Thomas has taken on the role of Secretary and we welcome onto the committee Carl Chambers, Mark Hughes (Fat Boy disco) and Paul Nutter (Nutsy) Our President Councillor Mrs Beryl Warner could not be there but we are grateful to Beryl’s great support for the Club she sent us a cheque for £1000 and a note wishing the Club well for next season.

Congratulation to Jonathan and Levinia Taylor on the birth of their son Daniel.

Our Youth set up is getting even bigger especially as there have been changes in the composition of some of the junior teams, so more managers and coaches have been recruited. If you are interested in helping with the Youth set up contact either Dylan Edwards 760752 or Richard Parry 762904.or come along to the Annual General Meeting at the Club House 6pm on Friday 16th July. Three more of our coaches started their FAW ‘C’ Coaching badge last weekend and two are starting their FAW ‘B’ Coaching badge this coming weekend. If we are to progress as a Club and offer the best possible coaching to our youngsters, then its necessary for us to attain within the Club the highest possible Coaching qualifications.

So here's the story about our pitch, When we had a major grant from Welsh Assembly some 5 years or so ago Anglesey Council pitched in with a generous contribution
STRI drew up a scheme which was sent out to specialist companies by Council. Smiths Construction won the tender and SP Projects of Bangor were employed as Consultants by the Council
The WAG grant was handed to the Council as they were responsible for the scheme, he scheme was for the pitch ,stand refurbishment and seating, dugouts and some other smaller matters
STRI were sent earthcores in 2006 by Smiths when doubt was expressed by the seeding sub contractor of the quality of the top soil, with the ongoing problems of drainage and poor  grass growth Council took earth cores themselves 6 months ago and sent them to STRI for analysis and result was the topsoil was not sandy loom as per the specification but high percentage of clay
Top soil supplied by CM Parry who sent top soil with glass at the first attempt consultants employed to look after client's (Council) interest the field cost £115000 including Consultant costs

Not exactly Goldman Sachs but pretty serious for a small club.

Were there any repercussions? Did C M Parry take their glass back? (Or did you mean grass? Cheesy)
