I reckon with 3 tests to play most will get a cap, we will just have to trust all the coaches to pick the best team to exploit any Bok weakness, up against the best side in the world at the mo nothing will be easy.

They may be World champs but i wouldn't say they are the best team in the World.. Wales could and should have taken them in the last meeting, but its always difficult to beat someone in there own back yard, but the way things are going its going to take a half decent team to stop the Lions....

Best guess at the moment seems to be:
Brian O'Driscoll and jamie Robertds at centre and Mike Phillips as scrum half.

Choices to be made:
Stephen Jones/Ronan O'Gara or Hook at half fly half
Bowe/Monye/Shane Wms/or Luke Fitzgerald as winger
Lee Byrne or Bob Kearney as full backs.

Western Province captain, Luke Watson, is reported to have said that the Lions have plenty of forwards to match the Springboks.

That's good news..
Mcgeechan is giving nothing away at the moment and wants the wholle squad to believe that they have a chance to make the final selection.

Right from the start it looked liked this game was going to be very PHYSICAL.
Twelve minutes in Hook took the brunt of a heavy double tackle and Euan Murray was incapacitated shortly afterwards.
O'Gara was called on - he later said " They were more interested in kicking lumps out of us than scoring or keeping the the score down"
I suppose it was ro be expected after a clear 5 out of 5 win on the tour so far.
At half time it was 3/3 after which the Lions came back and took control finishing with 20 points to 8 against the Southern kings at the Mandela bay Stadium in Cape Town.

Six ot of six - encouraging and the Lions will be determined to meet the challenge of the first test against South Africe at the ABSA Stadium on Sat.

Smiley  There's a great deal of anticipation that the alions will come up trumps this time.
This Saturday will be the first of 3 test match series and the Lions bid to win the first series in 12 years.
In 1997 the Lions won 2-1 when the South Africans were the World champions!
It's the same scenario again this time so there will be an added edge to the performance on Saturday.
Predicted to be a very PHYSICAL game but the Lions will be on top form and up to the challenge.
Six Welshmen  in team to start:
Lee Byrne,Jamie Roberts, Stephen Jones, mark Phillips, Alun-Wyn Jones and gethin jenkins.
and on the bench: Matthew Rees, Adam Jones, and Martyn Williams.
Together with the cream of the Irish and the English players they will be FORMIDABLE.

Mike Phillips won't like you calling him Mark!

I'm a little surprised that Martyn Williams wasn't selected at open side flanker.

Let's hope for a result in favour of the Lions.

ITN News 'Lions Tamed!'

Yes we lost..but only just. Now we need to win both remaining games to win the series. We still have a good chance.
It was a disappointing start with South Africa streaking ahead in the first half. However, it was the Lions who were in control, especially at the end of the game scoring all of the points in the final quarter, fishing 5 points behind at 21 -26 to the South Africans.

Exciting times ahead.
We can do it!

The performance of the  last half hour was what we need to aim at.  Adam Jones, Matthew Rees and Gethin Jenkins have to be starters next time.  Well played Jamie Roberts!

"One of the great matches of all time" Sunday Telegraph.

It was full of drama and a very brave performance by the Lions . After losing Adam Jones and Gethin Jenkins who went off with injuries in the first half they suffered further loss in the second half when Jamie Roberts and Brian O'Driscol  also sustained injuries.
They gamely fought on and the score was even close to the end till Ronan O'Gara bumped into the Springb ok csrum half Fourie de Peres conceding sa penalty which sealed the Springbok voctory in the closing minutes.
It was very exciting and the Lions can come home can be proud of their performance.

South Africa flanker Schalk Burger receives an eight-week ban for eye-gouging British and Irish Lions winger Luke Fitzgerald, while his team-mate Bakkies Botha is suspended for two weeks for a challenge on Adam Jones who dislocated his shoulder.

So we havn't won the test but the matches so far have been rivetting. The British and Irish Lions have shown an immense depth of talent and enormous courage so far and the XV chosen to start the third test will not fall short of the standard set.  They will be keen to turn the tables on the Springboks who after all have won on a very narrow margin. The final match will be as exciting as ever.
Five welsh lads will start in Johannesburg on Saturday - Shane Williams set to make his first start.  The others are : Stephen Jones, Mike Phillips, Martyn Williams and Matthew Rees with Alun-Wyn Jones and james Hook on the bench.

"The tour has been a wonderful experience and the team spirit has confirmed the best traditions of the Lions continues.............The players are determined to ensure that all their hard work during the 10-match tour is rewarded with a Test victory. There is no doubt that little has separsted the British Lions and the Springboks so far in what has been a tremendous series..."

A fantastic result for the LIons in the third test against the Springboks on Sat-winning by 28 points to 9 at the Coca-Cola(Ellis)park stadiun in Johannesburg.
Wales' diminutive Shane Williams was at his brilliant best scoring two of the three tries and was named man of the match. Ugo Monye scored the third try and Stephen Jones converted two tries and scored from three penalties.

Aye they acquitted themselves very well.  There are a lot of 'if only' moments that I recall but to do so well in the backyard of the world champions is very creditable.

I find the BBC Sport site is pretty reliable Gazza.  Very comprehensive cover of news, fixtures, results etc. for a wide variety of sports.
