Are you fed up with plain old boring white rice?

Fry up an onion in a non-stick pan,
add the rice,
add a tin of chopped tomatoes,
and a stock cube if you like,
and enough water to cover half inch over the rice and boil as usual.
Don't forget to season to taste!

That sounds nice, apart from the fact that you put tomatoes in it.

You mean like the female contributors to this forum?

My sister-in-law sometimes adds softened onion and red lentils while cooking rice. Lovely.

If you cook curries then it's worth adding them to the pot while it's simmering.  They add flavour and thicken up the sauce.
