Wales were brilliant in defence but lacked cohesion in attack. We were very sloppy at the breakdown and much too slow to recycle possession. The kicking from hand was mostly very ordinary and, occasionally, abysmal. New Zealand were slicker and faster and looked to be a threat whenever they went forward. They deserved their victory. I just wish the interception near the end had been by one of the backs rather than a lock!  |

Yeah Mab, it makes a difference having the legs to take it to a try. I really do wish that the Welsh team would practice their line-outs, they rarely seem to win them on their own put ins. As you say the defence was brilliant but as for the set pieces, what happened? They hardley seemed to be able to pull them off. A most entertaining game though.

I really do wish that the Welsh team would practice their line-outs, they rarely seem to win them on their own put ins. To be fair to Wales, their lineout success has improved. We went through a few years of pain in recent times and lost far too many lineouts. Saturday's statistics show that Wales won 17 lineouts on their own throw and lost 3 whereas New Zealand won 10 and lost 0 on their own throw. It is a crucial part of the game and I do feel the boys in red have improved of late. |

Boys, I was there.
The atmosphere was great! The game was exciting - Wales started well and we were happy at half time. It was frustrating for most of the second half but there were some promising moments and we kept the faith in the Stadium. We picked up towards the end but we did feel that the ref wasn't even handed but what did we expect from one coming from the southern hemisphere!I don't know if anyone saw the high tacle from Dan Carter which went unchallenged. Thre was much booing from the crowd aimed at the ref and more when he was declared man of the match. Dan Carter has now been suspended- a bit late in the day for justice for the welsh team. If you get the chance watch the replay of this incident.

Watching it on the telly tonight-it will be warm and the viewing will be good with the camera zoom lens on-- we'll see all the manouvres - the advantages of staying at home - best seat in the house and comfort. Its co-ooooooold in the millenium stadium but the psychologhical atmosphere will be hot.

I had a housful - extended family and friends and it was very noisy - grandkids leaping about etc so I wasn't able to concentrate. Anyway - it was a win but we should have done better. we were also very lucky that the samoans failed to kick some sure bet penalties over the bar. However there were some very very new players getting thair first chance playing for Wales who may have a bit overwhelmed by it all. Next week I'll be back in the Stadium. I expect there will a few changes made to the team for that game.

I'm afraid the boys were playing 'headless chicken' rugby. They weren't in control of the ball even during possession. They lacked composure and rushed everything. They didn't look like developing sequences of phases in attack. Some good prospects in Warburton and Biggar. I hope we see an improvement next weekend.
