I've been given a flat screen monitor to replace my aging old type monitor, but when I connect it it says "no signal".  Have I missed something when connecting it?

Not being funny and stating the obvious etc - have you got it plugged in?   and if so,  have you actually seen it working for whoever gave it to you?

It was plugged in, yes.  I connected it as is to where my current monitor is connected to.  I've not seen the monitor working but believe it to be.  It came from a friend who was just getting rid after buying a whole new system.  The connections are different to mine and that's possibly where the problem is.

I trust you rebooted as well so that it could rejig itself inside?

If so then the connection's almost certainly where the problem lies.  Nip out to the shop by the Police (pro-bytes is it?)  and talk to them.  very helpful.  They will show you a selection of fittings.  What you need is an adapter for the end of your cable so you can plug it into where you used to plug the other one.

Or if the cable can be disconnected from both the new monitor, take that to them and show them what doesn't fit - they'll then know what does.  I had a similar problem when I changed my graphics card.

I have a feeling, after having a better look, that I may have missed the most important connection.  That being, the one to the processor Embarrassed
I'll give it a go and report back on my success/failure Wink

Or pouring water down a disconnected plug-hole ...

Ok OK.

And it was only a thumb, not an entire blydi arm.

Anyway Shell, after my sage and wise advice you were able to get your monitor up and running, which is the most important thing.

PS I want no thanks for this.  Just knowing I've helped is enough.

You know something? It's this constant carping about "winning" and  "£5" that makes you such a popular member of this forum.

Note the phrase should be "powder and water" not "powder and wate."

I'm sure you noticed but were too polite to comment yeah.
