Just had a bag of cheese and onion but obviously ready salted are the best by far.

Oooh, I could go a prawn cocktail or a bag of quavers now.

Would you belive Pat was just in the UK and the selfish bugger didn't bring any crips back. Work and a tight schedule is no excuse.

They're not crisps by any stretch of the imagination, but I like Onion Rings (being maize-based snacks rather than actual onion rings).

Crips, yeah. I like salt and vinegar the best, then Worcestersterstershire sauce then cheese n'nionod.  They have to be proper crips though, none of those maize snack things, yuk.

What.

I've had some lovely crips from a Co-op in Birmingham.  They aren't made from tatws but carrots, parsnips and beetroot .... a mixture of each type in one bag.  I kid you not.  Blydi lovely, especially the beetroot ones.  I've not been able to find any in our local shops.

What about them Pringles ones? They even come in a tube and are all the same shape. The good thing with them is that you can make a duck bill shape from two of them hanging out of your mouth.

That reminds me. How do you make a singer out of a duck?

I saw a lady yesterday with a brown bag of hula hoops. Because of someone having a cardiac arrest, I forgot to ask what flavour the brown bag ones are.

Three of the lads performed CPR for over an hour and used the defib machine but there was no pulse there for it to work (sounds strange but the machine actually stops the heart so it can put itself back into normal rhythm), unfortunately he bought it and the flavour remains a mystery too.

Among the re-made flavours, for instance, is cheese & onion, where cheese powder from Somerset has replaced the artificial flavour enhancer, monosodium glutamate.

I'm looking forward to the horse flavoured ones me.

I had a handfull of Watsits the other week, they were on a tray in work, someone had a birthday party and there was stacks of food there, but apart from that I have pretty well much laid off them whilst the training is going well.

a blob of milliput would stop the leak, it is waterproof and heat resistant. You would probably get one of those kettles without a name for less than the milliput and a bag of crips thrown in too (but not in the kettle no)

Not having eaten any crips for months now I was astounded and amazed at the variety of crips in a vending machine what I saw yesterday. There were some there called Bang Bang Spicey Thai and they particularly grabbed my attention.
On the pack there was a bold claim that they were a 'NO NONSENSE HUNGER FIX' in capital letters. I pondered for some time about this and wondered how hungry you would have to be before they stopped being a no nonsense hunger fix and if there is actually a scale of hunger and if there is, what or how is it measured. I came to a quick guessed conclusion that had no research or scientific backing whatsoever, that the scale would probably be in calories. Or in hunger pains. Or something else.
Then there was an even better statement on the front of the packet, glaring at viewers under a small but quite bright bulb, lighting up the Bang Bang Spicey Thai and other potato and corn snacks, not even to mention the chocolate bars that were nestled below in spiral nests longing for a punter to insert their toiled for cash into an always open slot, yearning for the fescialised corkscrews to torque into action, teasingly pushing the fatty, sugar laced product to their lemming like descent.
The statement read as follows 'NEW and IMPROVED'. This time the 'and' was not deemed worthy enough of the full military salute of capital letters and was demoted to rank and file of lower case.
How can they be new, and improved? Either the old recipe has been improved or they are a new product. Fascinating stuff.

Does anyone know who invented crisps?

One website says this:
In the summer of 1853, Native American George Crum was employed as a chef at an elegant resort in Saratoga Springs, New York. One dinner guest found Crum's French fries too thick for his liking and rejected the order. Crum decided to rile the guest by producing fries too thin and crisp to skewer with a fork. The plan backfired. The guest was ecstatic over the browned, paper-thin potatoes, and other diners began requesting Crum's potato chips

And this is Mr Crum:

Title: Re: Crisps
Post by: Rascal on Friday 06 September 2013, 1645
After not much research on the topic Mab, it seems that most people would agree that it is because of the shipping process and keeping those delicious little morsels intact. It looks like no one wants to open a bag of crumbs but actually they prefer their crips to be large enough to bite into, satisfying the consumers aesthetic need for the crunch.

One sinical reply on the webnetintersite suggested that it was down to marketing and that the bigger bag would appeal to consumers over a smaller bag, no matter how small a portion of crips you actually get inside.

Remember, crips should be fun and only eaten as part of a calorie controlled diet or if you are hungry or just fancy some or are being greedy and having some even when you are full up.

If you get them alongside your Ginsters sarnie and My Mums Best-Buy Cola as a £3.00 Meal Deal (which will actually cost more without the crips), are you required by law to eat the crips as well?
Title: Re: Crisps
Post by: Rascal on Friday 06 September 2013, 2043
There is no legal requirements for people to eat crips as part of a Meal Deal, even if they have bought them or been given them as a gift.

There is a law, the VAT Tax 1994 that states that tax should apply to potatoe crisps (crips), potatoe sticks, potatoe puffs, and similar products made from potato, from potato flour, or from potatoe starch...etc. there doesn't seem to be any rule or law stating that you have to eat them though even though the tax has been paid on them. It's a case of EU politicians jamping on the gravy train and making mad laws that only the British public put up with, the French would set lorries on fire.
Title: Re: Crisps
Post by: Nooks on Friday 06 September 2013, 2208
I hope we don't have to pay any extra VAT on account of the crips being re-heated by the burning lorries.
Title: Re: Crisps
Post by: Rascal on Tuesday 10 September 2013, 1004
Didn't that extra heating up tax stop because shops said that they would provide microwave ovens so that people could heat the muck up themselves?

Mab, ever the optimist but these crip bags are neither half full or half empty. It turns out that they are fullup. There is a gas in them that is put there. Nitrogen, it seems, keeps the greasy snack, fresh.

I once went to Aylsbury Civic Centre to see a band, I can't remember the main act but the support acts lead singer was wearing yellow marigold gloves and he had on stage, right by the audience, a battered triangle road sign, the sort you see next to blokes digging up the road.

At one point in the set, he picked up a hammer and started thrashing the sign like a lunatic. Then, he gave the hammer to a member of the audience and got them to continue with the din.

This is 100% wrong! Special K, the cereal, is now only a cracker crips. What? Why oh why can't Kellogg's make their mind up and decide once and for all what products they are making and give them different names for a start and also, what the heck is a cracker crips? Is it a cracker? Is it crips? We don't know, it's not been explained properly. Just left up in the air all cracerey and cripy, well I call it crappery that's what. Who do Kellogg's think they are going about saying that crackers are crips and crips are crackers. Everyone knows that crackers ain't crips and crips ain't crackers. Frank Carson never used to go and get it monumentally wrong like this, not once on TISWAS did he say a rubbish joke, put on a false laugh and bellow out 'it's a crip'.
Being Special K you would expect them to be a slimming product but the fat content is 9g per 100g whereas M+S own version low fat crips are 2.4g per 100g. It's health and safety gone mad.

Dear me, when will lovely ladies learn that passing on their chores that they love will only bring disharmony to their households. Imagine when a family member goes to the cupboard for something and opens the door and there is only beer, cupasoup and crips in there. Proper blokes food.

Anyway, enough nonsense from women. Have you seen the new crips advert with Gray Linekar? He is now advertising, and I exclaimed 'Brilliant!' when it was on, a bag of mix crips. Absolutely ideal to go with a pint of mix.

Do they do crips in chippys?
And can you get battered crips in Scotlanshire?

There is a programme on the telly with him, the bald one, from Mastershout on it. It's basically, through the round window off of Play School. He goes to somewhere, the one I saw was making bread, so he went to where the flour is milled, then to the bread factory and then to the shops. What took Brian Cant  a couple of minutes, took I'M SHOUTING Wallace an hour. But it would be good if there was a crips one.

Twice in one week! Yeah, that's right, I went to the rub a dub twice in one week. Last Wednesday after a race we went to the Cock where nothing untoward happened. The Present Mrs. Rascal gave me some pocket money to go out, but the Salmon bought me a pint and I only had the one (not because I was driving, because I wouldn't even have one, I would stick to soft drinks).  The next day, because I hadn't spent my pocket money, I went out with the Salmon and Jonsey.  As I was at the bar getting the first round in and waiting for arrivals, I spotted crips on a piece of card, like you used to get the nuts with a picture of a lady behind. Anyway, the crips flavour was Ploughmans lunch flavour.

At work, there is a bloke called Andy.  Each break and lunch time, there is a right fuss about what and how much junk he is going to eat.

There is one of those vans that sell bechdans and crips and sweets and drinks of pop and the like.  Andy go there at least once a day and more often than not, twice.

We say to him that he should go to a supermarket or market and get a multi-pack of, for instance, chocolate bars or cans of pop.  That way he would save a whole bunch of money every month.  He is of the opinion that he cannot be ars. bothered.

Today, his bag of crips were 99p a packet and they were brown hula-hoops.

Years ago when I was studying part time masters degree, there was a lady on the course that worked for Red Mill crips. She brought us some samples in the one evening, ace!  She did however say that the factory did make their own doritos styleee crips. They were the same product that was put in the doritos because they made them there too, apart from they were not allowed to use the same recipe so the percentage of ingredients would vary by 1 or 2 percent. Skill yeah.

Yesterday I met up with my cousin and his son. We had a (http://forum.caergybi.com/images/panad.jpg) and went for a walk. After that I was starving and he had some crips on the side there, so I asked if I could have a pack. They were Wheat Crunchies Crispy Bacon flavour wheaty tubes with a serious crunch. Each 25g pack contains 6% energy, 9% fat, 3% Saturates, 1% Sugars and 8% salt of an adult's referenced intake. In addition to this, other info available was that there was no MSG, cooked with 100% sunflour oil, no artificial colours or flavours. It was from a multipack and not to be sold separately.

And, as an extra bit, it advertised DISCOS and NICK NAKS on the back.

They were ok too.

The "spell and go" promotion invited people to collect and swap letters from codes on crisp packs to spell the names of 26 far-flung holiday destinations.

So how many holiday destinations can you think of with the letters C, D or K?

Excellent spot Shell.

A top scientist spys message has been captured and deciphered and it can be revealed that these Walkers Stax are sort if like Prignals.

And yeah, they come in Limited Edition flavours, paprika is one of them.  I don't fancy that me no.

When more information is available, it will be leaked.

I can confirm that I have completed my sampling of Walkers (where's the apostrophe?) Stax
