Tec... have you  tried the  limpet recipie and are the limpets chewy  ? Think i would rather catch , kill and eat a haggis, i was told they run around mountains in Scotland on three legs   and  that was told to me by  a Merican years ago and i still feel guilty for not telling  him the truth, i can still imagine him with all his cameras round his neck up in Scotland waiting  around the mountains for a haggis to come running  on it`s three leg`s bachaud on him.

Ness, I love Haggis! Limpets are nice with garlic, but the trick is not to over-cook them as they become tough...

Oh Lizzie I did the same thing, when I lived in Englandshire I used to tell people that mountain ponies had two legs shorter on one side and that sheep on the hills were a special breed that had very short front legs, and no I never felt guilty ::)

You mean they dont? :o

Haggis is great BTW, so long as you don't dwell on the ingredients for too long (vegetarian nightmare)

I like haggis too but try not to think of what it's made of.

Scottish Haggis is great , and the Greeks make all their sausages  out of sheep intestines ( a type of haggis ).  Normally I would never eat them, but being  half shot one night and in a taverna i tried  them, best sausages i ever tasted. I had so much acid  the next day  i chwydyd. I  love to try any  food i have not tried before and when i saw a Greek cookery programme  on telly  here  i nearly threw chunks after seeing what they put in the sausages.
Think i will stick to  Lobscouse and pea and ham soup. I made Lobscouse for a  Dutch taverna owner here , they all went crazy for it  last winter, they are open all year and get Germans and  English in there and they  had some as well. I have been asked to  supply  them  with it all this coming winter also  pea and ham soup , Welsh style and leek and potato soup. Leeks are largeley grown here.
Sweedes or  Rhwdans originated here as well, and to think they originated here  no one grows them but  Celeriac grows here , hate the taste of them as they  taste mainly  of celery. I  brought with me  loads of packs of  rhwdan seeds  and hope to get this dead soil sorted out  soon to plant them.
Brawn...... my  gawd,  i remenber working in E.B.Jones and on the deli counter all the  poor  pensioners  had brawn or Haslet slices, they could only afford a quarter pound of them and always asked for   a quarter of mixed  off cuts of  meat. Well ,  i will admit now, i would give them all half a pound or more plus bacon bits and  ham and anything  else   they  needed , i would tell them that  they were on special offer so  i wouldn`t get into  trouble and they would be  fed for a few days.
I  was a professional butcher in them days too, and many a time  i witnessed  many a pensioner looking at the  pre packed meats in the counter and  shaking their heads in dismay at the prices, some would pick a pack of  cheap  shin beef, all grizzle and fat  and  worth  nothing  but the company  charged  full price. I always looked out for the  poor pensioneer  staring glibly at the packs, wondering how long it would last , how many meals would this  cheap meat stretch to , i would simply  say to the interested pensioneer  " I can mince it if you like and it  will be better for you  and stretch  a meal or two  more ", I would  mince not only  the pack they  picked but add what  meat was  only going to be thrown out  in the  fridge  that day as it was  just off cuts and nothing wrong with it. God love them all as it was such a struggle for them all in the 70`s , i loved  caring for them.

Ness, are you the reason E.B Jones closed down?  I'm only joking of course, that was a kind thing to do.  I bet Tref wouldn't get treated the same way in Netto even if he is a penshuneer.

That may have something to do with the fact that Netto's packaging usually has foreign writing on it, Tref. :)

Many thanks Mab, I shall steer clear of anything with those words in them, as I hate tomatoes and foreign tomatoes are even bigger than the ones we get here.
