I am so glad Nooks started this thread because the day after was 21 November, today is the day after someone's birthday which was yesterday once more, now if it was announced the day before it would have been the case of tomorrow never comes.

Shame on you lot for forgetting Trefs Birthday!

(happy birthday for yesterday Tref)
while we have time let us do good

Shame on you all.   At least I remembered.
Even now
My thought is clinging as to a lost learning
Slipped down out of the minds of men,
Labouring to bring her back into my soul.

I do get worried at this time of year that our kids may get confused between the true meaning of Christmas and the legend of Santa Claus. The following link may help to explain the connections and more importantly, the differences.

Today, 6th December, is St. Nicholas' Day.

Today, 19th December 2011 is the thirtieth anniversary of the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster, when all hands of the courageous RNLB Solomon Browne were lost, together with those of the casualties they were attempting to rescue in treacherous conditions.

A full account of the event is described under the 'News' tag on the Holyhead Lifeboat website.

Cleaning.

Bit of shopping : Beer/cream/ serving spoons

Peeling veg.

Eating: For the first time ever, I've decided - Yes "I" have decided - that we're having a take-away for dinner.

Chilling

Pretending my kids aren't 18 and 23 and making them go to bed so Santa can visit. Telling them that they are too blydi old for Christmas stockings at the end of their beds. Then becoming sentimental and telling them they'll always be my babies. Then getting annoyed when they take the pith and say I'm a drunkard and should be ashamed. Then wrestling them to the ground for a goodnight kiss.

Bed.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.

Love it  ;D..... we are having a take- away for dinner too. (I might even invite my old maths teacher.)

I've just been to Bangor to get Mrs Baz's Christmas present, I was amazed how quiet it was.

Eight-mile run, deliver prezzies to family, sit down at puter and sample cocktails (just to ensure I get them right yeah) so far I have tried a Harvey Wallbanger and a Banana daquari... what next, hmmmm.... a vodka-martini, shaken, not slurred perhaps...

I once  (back in 1980) got plastered in a bar in Miami on R&R from Belize drinking Harvey Wallbangers made the florida way - 2 shots vodka,  1 shot Galliano,  8 shots freshly squeezed orange juice from Florida oranges.

The next night me and my mates got plastered on White Russians down in Fort Lauderdale after watching fledgling American soccer - Fort Lauderdale Strikers v Memphis Rogues.   The Strikers featured the legendary (and by then grossly overweight) Gerd Müller and the equally legendary Peruvian Teófilo Cubillas.   Playing for the Rogues were Jimmy Husband, Charlie Cooke, Jim Steele and David Stride.

The rest of the time we drank beer.

BOXING DAY

Acccording to Wikipedia the origin and history of this traditional day are somewhat ambiguous.

Whenever kids think of Boxing Day they seem to conjure up images like this :-

but I find it difficult to explain clearly to my kids what it really means.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the origin of Boxing Day ?... I for once would be intrigued to read a daily fact from Wils on this subject.

and what are you all up to today ? I don't think I will be doing much, just relaxing and meeting up with family and friends.

Without cheating and consulting Wiki. I vaguely recall being told it was something to do with the master and mistresses of the house making a belated Christmas meal for the servants and giving them 'Christmas Boxes'. Could be way out on that though.
