Parisella's Ice Cream
« on: Sunday 30 July 2006, 1819 »
Had a blast from the past this afternoon. I was shopping in JJB Bangor and there in the car park was a Parisella's ice cream van. That really took me back I can tell you aye. I remember the little blue and white van that used to tour Llaingoch delivering to the kids. I'm trying to remember the tune that they used to play, mams and dads must have hated that tune.  Can anyone remember the tune?
Seems they are only in Conwy now, well that was the address on the van!

Yeah it was great ice cream, better than Mr Whippy. Was it the Parisella family that ran the cafe opposite the Market bus stop?

Parisellas has always been based in Conwy, do you remember Joe? he was the middle brother short, fat, dark hair.......

I was told that the family came over to this country in the 30's and settled in Conwy.

We always waited for them to come round (did'nt bother with Mr Softy).

That was the Express Cafe, run by the Ghiorsi family - pronounced Chorsey.
Although it was really the Bertorelli family after WW2 - it was always known as Chorsey's in town.

Just vanilla and strawberry flavours but made every week on the premises.

great stuff!

Chorsey's cafe! How could I have forgotten that name. Always steamed up in the winter, loads of old people having a before getting the bus! Ice cream in the summer. Was there a little window that they served through on to the street or am I mixing things up?

Yes, there was a little window opening onto the pavement on Stanley Street beside the lane going down to Saint Cybi's.

You took your time answering that post! It's strange to see an old old thread resurface. Contributors who have moved on and in some cases passed on.

That was an urban legend, like werewolfs and the internet.

Such an urban legend that I actually saw him do it. The bloke next to me handed him a tenner and got an ice cream in return, the pupil then scooped the ice cream up and threw it on the floor.
This took me by surprise and I exclaimed, what did you do that for? He then took a packet out of the cone, I looked up at the bloke in his van and he gave me a shut the heck up look

If it was a myth, I would have said did anyone hear about the rumour of drugs being sold, but I actually saw it.
